Talia Barnes graduated cum laude from Dickinson College in 2017 with a bachelor's degree in English and studio art and a minor in creative writing. She currently works as a multimedia designer.

Talia frequently writes about the relationship between media, culture, technology, and human flourishing. Her work has been published in Persuasion, Merion West, Front Porch Republic, and Root Quarterly.

In her free time, you can find her exploring Pennsylvania's towns and parks, browsing local yard sales, and taking long romantic walks with her camera.

"Express yourself," said the poster on the wall of the principal's office. But how? Who am I — and who wants to know? Why am I here? . . . Am I in trouble?

These questions, which have mystified great philosophers for generations, also motivate my creative pursuits. What, exactly, am I hoping to discover? I have no idea.

What I do know is that cutting up paper and arranging it into unfamiliar shapes, taking photographs of mundane objects, and drawing semi-autobiographical comics all scratch the same itch: to understand my surroundings and make my findings known to others.

This drive is not unique to me, but sometimes, my results are, and they often lead toward new paths of exploration.

My work is iterative and self-referential, subject to endless construction, destruction, re-contextualization and repetition. Like an inside joke with myself, it may or may not be relatable to others: Regardless, I find it amusing.
